About NumberNest
Why NumberNest exists
When I moved from the UK to Australia, I wanted to keep my UK number for the same reason most people do. I’d had it for over 10 years, everyone had it down as my phone number, and I’d become attached to it and had it memorised off by heart. It was also the number all my accounts and services back home were tied to.
The options weren’t great. I could keep paying for a UK plan I barely used, or move my number to a cheap giffgaff SIM, keep it alive and live with the limits of not really being able to use it.
Out of this frustration I wanted to build something. Somewhere people with a similar problem to me could move their numbers into a service and keep them safe for as long as they like, and have all the features they use most from their number back home, but anywhere in the world!
So I built NumberNest. It keeps my number safe, the messages and calls from my accounts and services back home come straight to my phone no matter where I am, and I don’t have to tell anyone my new number!
Who runs it
NumberNest is run by me, Monty. My own UK number was the first one to move over, in October 2026. I asked giffgaff for the PAC on its website while I was in Australia, and the number has been in NumberNest ever since.
How it works
When you bring your number, it moves to the phone company NumberNest works with, the same way it would move to a new provider. NumberNest runs the app and the website on top. The number stays yours the whole time, and you can take it to another provider whenever you like, with no exit fee.
When it opens
NumberNest is still in development, but things are going well. I aim to release NumberNest to the public in the coming months, and I look forward to hearing how your experience goes.
